corticate (adjective) – with a cortex, i. e., covered by a smooth surface of agglutinated hyphae; in the most general sense used to include all kinds of corticoid surface layers, see pseudocortex, phenocortex and eucortex; sometimes more strictly used to refer only to a true cortex, the eucortex.
