holdfast (noun, pl. holdfasts; synonym: attachment organ)– an expanded, sometimes disk-like attachment of the thallus to its substrate; used in a general sense to include rhizines or other "anchoring", "root-like" structures which are not specialized for absorption. This is:part of lower thallus surface.
