Mediterranean zone (noun,biogeography term,no plural) – a disjunct floristic province characterized primarily by Mediterranean climate, i. e., overall mild throughout the year, with warm, but not hot summers and cool but not cold winters, and with winter rain and summer draught; the following disjunct areas belong to this floristic zone: California, the Mediterranean Region, Northern Chile, South Africa, and Southern Australia.
