organ (noun, pl. organs) – a differentiated structure of an organism that can be characterized by a particular function; typically composed of several tissues or layers of cells (note: fungi have no true tissues and their organs are thus formed by layers of hyphae called plectenchyma, these pseudo-tissues assume similar functions as the tissues of organs in animals or plants).
