bullate (adjective) – forming strongly convex and swollen, almost globular, bubble- or blister-like swellings; (1) thallus growth form: composed of strongly inflated areoles, that are generally much larger and more constricted at the base than verrucae, and usually have a loose to almost hollow medulla; (2) surface structures: describing the surface of a foliose thallus that covered in blisters that typically correspond to hollow depressions on the other side, e. g., the bullae on the surface of Lasallia; (3) in basidiomycetes: applied to the shape of a pileous (cap) that has a rounded projection (bulla) at the centre.
