lightness (noun,no plural; synonym: colour brightness, no plural) – a relative quality of colour in comparison to a reference value; one of three main attributes of colour (see hue, chroma, lightness); e. g., the pale yellow colour of a lemon has a lighter tint than the deep yellow of a banana, the grey of the sky is brighter than the grey of tar. Related terms: colour value.
