protonym (noun, pl. protonyms;nomenclature term) – a name effectively but not validly published after the starting point for a taxonomic group; the protonym is thus neither a devalidated nor a validly published name that might, however, later be taken up and then validly published. (See Dictionary of the Fungi and Donk, Persoonia 1: 175, 1960)
