Cyanobacterium
cyanobacterium (pl. cyanobacteria) – a prokaryotic alga, i. e., an organism composed of photosynthetic cells lacking nuclei and cell organelles like chloroplasts, but capable of forming aggregates, colonies and even truly multi-cellular forms composed of several differentiated cells with different shape and function, all of which are capable to communicate with one another (i. e., the only multi-cellular prokaryotes); classified as Cyanophyta, Cyanobionta, which are part of the Eubacteria; often loosely referred to as blue-green algae.
