Contiguous

contiguous (adj.) – sharing a common edge or boundary, but differentiated into adjacent, structures that are touching one another. Because of the very similar spelling the term is frequently confused with continuous; e. g., a thallus is contiguous if composed of closely adjoining areoles, it is continuous, if it is not subdivided; cf. adjoining.
