Fuzzy coat

fuzzy coat (noun,ascus term, pl. fuzzy coats) – the g-layer on the outside of an ascus; frequently with gelatinous consistency (cf. gelin); typically present in all asci and often reacting amyloid; usually a thin layer along the sides of an ascus, but sometimes apically thickened as an apical cap. This is:part of ascus.
