halonate (adj.) – with a halo, i. e., a wide, more or less distinctly visible gelatinous, translucent sheath around the ascospore that is most easily seen in India ink because the ink does not penetrate the mucilage of the sheath and a light-transparent halo thus becomes visible against a blackened background.
