Littoral

littoral (1) (noun, no plural) – the belt of vegetation along the shore barely above the water level; typically not submerged but nevertheless subject to frequent immersion or spray because of changing tides and waves; cf. coastal vegetation belts. – (2) (adj.) – growing immediately at the shore of seas or lakes; in the strict sense implying a frequent immersion or wetting by spray from changing tides and/or waves; cf. marine, maritime.
