Medullary exciple

medullary exciple (pl. medullary exciple) – the central part of a thalline exciple that essentially represents the same part as the thallus medulla; frequently filled with crystals; in the thalline exciple a distinct medulla is often not clearly differentiated from the part where the photobiont cells are present.
