Phycobiont

phycobiont (pl. phycobionts) – algae that are part of a lichen symbiosis. The term is problematic because algae are not a taxonomic but an ecological group of organisms. From an ecological point of view cyanobacteria also represent algae even though they are prokaryotic and therefore not closely related to any eukaryotic algae.
