Author citation
author citation (noun, pl. author citations;nomenclature term; synonyms: taxon author) – any reference to the author who first effectively published a taxon name. By convention the taxon author is typically cited directly with the taxon name to avoid taxonomic confusion otherwise caused by homonyms, i. e., identical names that were described independently by different authors. The shortest author citation is an abbreviation of the author name (e. g., L. for Linnaeus). Sometimes taxonomic lists also include the date of the original description (protologue) or even a complete reference to the publication.
