Cladistics

cladistics (noun,no singular) – a taxonomic method to group taxa into discrete sets assuming that common ancestry can thus be inferred and a phylogeny may be established to reflect the evolution of a group of organisms; different cladistic methods use various statistical criteria to achieve this goal.
