eucortex (noun, pl. eucortices; variant spelling: eucortexes) – a true cortex, formed of "well differentiated tissue" (Ainsworth & Bisby); in the sense of Poelt (1958), a tissue composed entirely of fungal cells, without dead algae, and formed from a cambium-like layer within or just above the algal layer.
