'''fine structure''' (''no plural'') – often used as a synonym of [[ultrastructure]]. It may be reasonable to distinguish ''fine structure'' from ''ultrastructure'' by the device used to discern structural detail. ''Fine structure'' can thus still be resolved with a light microscope, whereas the ''ultrastructure'' can only be distinguished with an electron microscope. However, this distinction becomes problematic with increased instrument performance. Fluorescence and confocal microscopy is now able to discern structures that were previously only seen with transmission electron microscope.

fine structure (noun,no plural) – often used as a synonym of ultrastructure. It may be reasonable to distinguish fine structure from ultrastructure by the device used to discern structural detail.
