mazaedium (noun, ascospore term,spore morphology term, pl. mazaedia; variant spelling: sl. macaedium, pl. macaedia) – a powdery mass of ascospores, disintegrating [[ascus walls) and paraphyses covering the disk of an apothecium and typically observed in calicioid Physciaceae and Mycocaliciales.
