scyphus (noun, pl. scyphi) – a broadened, usually funnel- or cup-shaped expanded apex of a podetium in the genus Cladonia); some authors distinguish between an open-base funnel (= a scyphus in the strict sense), and a closed-bottom cup (= a cup in the strict sense).
