cup (noun, pl. cups) – shaped like a cup, i.e., a small drinking bowl; in the genus Cladonia typically used to describe the uppermost part of goblet-shaped podetia; in the strict sense cups have a closed bottom (like a wine-glass), whereas the term scyphus is instead used for a podetium that apically broadens into a bottom-less, open funnel.
