Alga
alga (pl. algae) – predominantly aquatic, but also terrestrial, photosynthetic organisms, ranging in size from single cells like diatoms or (even bacteria) to huge multi-cellular organisms like the giant kelp. The term algae is essentially an ecological and not a taxonomic category; in a strict sense often applied only to eukaryotic organisms, but in a more loosely applied sense also referring to blue-green algae that are prokaryotic, i. e., bacteria.
