From LIAS Glossary

exoascus (pl. exoasci; synonym: sl. exotunica, pl. exotunicae ) – the outer functional layer of a fissitunicate or semi-fissitunicate ascus. This functional layer is not always formed by the same ascus wall layers and the ultrastructure of exoasci from different ascus types is therefore not identical.
