exoascus (noun, ascus term, pl. exoasci; synonym: exotunica) – the outer functional layer of a fissitunicate or semi-fissitunicate ascus. This functional layer is not always formed by the same ascus wall layers and the ultrastructure of exoasci from different ascus types is therefore not identical.
