gelatinous (adjective) – jelly-like, gel-like, with a consistency of a gel, i. e., like an agar plate; most often used to refer to cyanolichens that have photobionts with thick gelatinous sheaths (= mucilaginous sheaths) and thus swell considerably when wet and then assume a gelatinous structure. Related terms: mucilagenous, mucilage, gel.
