Mucilage

mucilage (noun,no plural) – slime, mucus; usually referring to strongly hydrophilic polysaccharides that can take up large amounts of water and then assume an elastic, strongly viscous consistency; their consistency varies according to the water content, mucilage is less viscous than a gel.
