halo (noun, ascospore term,spore morphology term, pl. halos) – a distinctly swollen gelatinous sheath; in the light microscope most easily distinguished in India ink, because the ink does not penetrate the mucilage and the halo just appears bright around the spore against a dark background. This is:part of spore.
