Immersed

immersed (adjective) – sunken, buried; (1) thallus growth form: a thallus that is entirely or partially hidden within the substrate; see endosubstratic (including chasmolithic, cryptoendolithic, endolithic, endophloeic, etc.); (2) thallus structures: ascocarps or conidiomata that are at least initially immersed but eventually may emerge or that remain permanently immersed, even at maturity.
