prosoplectenchyma (no plural; alternative spelling: prosenchyma) – plectenchyma of loosely to tightly interwoven, distinctly separate hyphae, i. e., not resembling the parenchyma of vascular plants. In microscopic sections separate fungal hyphae can clearly be distinguished and their hyphal cells generally appear elongated. Within prosoplectenchyma hyphae may be arranged in distinctly different orientation; cf. anticlinal, periclinal, irregular.
