Stalk
stalk (noun, pl. stalks) – a general term for any elongated upright structure, usually including the main axis (cf. stem) as well as lateral branches; general a popular term for any elongated, upright structure bearing other thallus parts; frequently applied to podetia or pseudopodetia, or to stipes or any elongated basal portions of a thallus or ascocarp, as in Cladonia and Alectoria.
