apothecium (noun, pl. apothecia;ascocarp term) – an orbicular, disk-, cup- or saucer-shaped ascocarp, i. e., an ascocarp with a hymenium exposed in an open disk; in a strict sense only applied to ascocarps with an ascohymenial ontogeny but frequently used to refer to all disk-shaped ascocarps.
