articulate (adjective; synonym: articulated) – jointed, segmented; (1) typically referring to thallus branches that are broken into segments, i. e., into swollen portions, thus resembling the leg of a crustacean or a string of sausages; e. g., the "sausage lichen" Usnea articulata; (2) also used to describe paraphyses that are distinctly septate and indistinctly constricted at the septa. Related terms: moniliform.
