From LIAS Glossary
Jump to: navigation, search

byssoid (adjective) – entirely composed of delicate, densely interwoven threads. The term byssoid does not refer to any particular growth form per se, but instead describes an overall loose, "fluffy" internal structure of a thallus typically not delimited by a cortex. Byssoid thalli often break apart into irregular clusters and are then referred to as floccose.
