chemotype (noun, pl. chemotypes, nomenclature term; also known as chemodeme) – an informal group of taxa with the same secondary chemistry; it has been suggested that different chemotypes might generally be regarded as separate cryptic (= sibling) species, however, this concept is very controversial and has not generally been adopted; the chemotype is generally preferred as an informal category with no taxonomic rank whenever formal recognition appears premature.
