Clypeus

clypeus (noun, pl. clypei;ascocarp term) – a shield-like stromatic growth that covers one or several perithecia or pycnidia, typically incorporating both fungal hyphae and tissue from the host or phorophyte; more commonly encountered in non-lichenized fungi, rarely also found in endophloeic crustose lichens.
