Colour cast

From LIAS Glossary
Jump to: navigation, search

colour cast (noun, pl. colour casts) – a unequal mixture of different colours, where the dominant hue is contaminated by impurities from a different hue, e. g., a bluish white is a white with blue impurities (i. e., with a blue colour cast), a yellowish brown is a brown mixed with little amounts of yellow. In contrast: a mixture of equal amounts of different hues typically results in a new colour: thus, yellow-red is identical with orange.
