Colour wheel
colour wheel (noun, pl. colour wheels) – an circular arrangement of the visible colour spectrum forming a ring connecting the long-wave, red end of the spectrum with the violet, short-wave end. In the colour wheel additive primary hues lie opposite to their subtractive counterparts. Thus, red (R) lies opposite of cyan (C), yellow (Y) opposite of blue (B), and green (G) opposite of magenta (M). Mixing light facing opposite ends of the colour results in white light (additive mixture: the light of both sources adds up to generate white). Mixing ink facing opposite ends of the colour wheel results in a black printout (subtractive mixture: both inks subtract light that they absorb, thus the printout becomes darker, but because of ink impurities typically no pure black but a dark grey is generated).
