conidium (noun, pl. conidia; synonym: conidiospore) – ... by budding off from the sides or tips of specialized hyphae; minute, generally rod-shaped, fusiform, or thread-like, produced in large numbers, which might function either as asexual propagules (pycnoconidia) or as male gametes (spermatia).
