Cyanophilic
cyanophilic (adjective; variant spelling: cyanophilous) – (1) preferring cyanobacteria (as a photobiont). Note: the term does not make a lot of sense and may better be avoided. It is certainly difficult to evaluate whether species preferably form symbioses with blue-green rather than green algae. However, the ending "–philous" implies such a preference and it is therefore misleading to use it generally for all fungi forming symbioses with cyanobacteria; (2) referring to cytoplasm, cell walls or spore ornamentation that stains blue if the microscopic stain lactophenol-cotton-blue is applied.
