Dactyl

dactyl (noun, pl. dactyls) – a nodular to cylindrical or clavate outgrowth resembling a conically swollen isidium, with a distinct cortex, but usually opening at the apex to extrude medullary hyphae and sometimes soredia; usually with a very distinct "Christmas-tree shape", i. e., tapered towards the apex, swollen towards the base and ± constricted at its attachment point. Kind of: isidiomorphs,upper surface structure.
