ex (Greek & Latin; Taxonomic preposition) – used in citations of authors (e. g., Pers. ex Fr.) in the sense of "from", i. e., first validly published by the second author although previously introduced by the first one; e. g., Buellia lepidastroidea Imshaug ex Bungartz, this species name was first used by Imshaug in his dissertation, which was never validly published but only distributed on microfiche; Bungartz subsequently published the name in Mycotaxon (Bungartz 2004) providing the first valid, Latin description of the species.
