Fibril

fibril (noun, pl. fibrils) – short, simple branches, perpendicular to the main branches; (1) in Usnea, a short, slender, fully grown lateral branch, usually over 3 mm long but rarely over 1 cm long, more or less perpendicular to the branch on which it grows; distinct from a branchlet, which is a small juvenile branch (also see "spinule"); (2) a slender filament, consisting of united hyphae occurring on the margin of the thallus; compare cilium. Kind of: isidium.
