generative (adjective) – with the ability to produce offspring, i. e., to procreate a new generation; in general biology typically used only in the context of sexual reproduction; in mycology of ascomycetes typically referring to hyphae that originate as part of the ascoma. asexual reproduction is not generative because it typically results in the formation of offspring that is genetically identical with its parents. Therefore, asexual reproduction does not lead to a new generation that is genetically distinct.
