heteromerous (adjective) – having unequal or differing parts, layered; in lichens: referring to a thallus distinctly differentiated into layers of hyphae (like cortex or medulla) and a layer of photobiont cells. Note: generally used in biology to describe structures that have different parts, e. g., in basidiomycetous fungi referring to trama (parts of lamellae of a basidiocarp) of Russulaceae that are characterized by aggregations of globose cells (sphaerocyt nests) among otherwise filamentous hyphae. Related terms: homoimerous.
