patterned (adjective) – suggesting a design or order; i. e., a surface structured by low ridges, tiny cracks, white spots or lines, thus giving the impression of an intrinsic design; often net-like or otherwise regular and repetitive; across a thallus surface often best observed along the periphery, i. e., where a pattern is usually not obscured by wrinkles, undulations or surface structures.
