perforate (adjective; variant spelling: perforated) – with holes, penetrated by holes (visible at least with a hand lens); generally applied to any surface that is interrupted or penetrated by distinct perforations, e. g., the thalli of Cladia; (1) sometimes used to refer to open axils of thallus branches, particularly in some shrub-like secondary thalli of Cladonia species, e. g., Cladonia furcata (Huds.) Schrader; or (2) pertaining to apothecial disks penetrated by holes, e. g., @@@@@@
