Polymorphism

polymorphism (noun, pl. polymorphisms) – the same original structure that can assume different morphologies depending on the function and ecological condition it is subjected to; it is often assumed that polymorphisms are a form of structural variability that is inherently manifested within the genome and thus characteristic for a particular taxon.
