Reacting UV positive

From LIAS Glossary
Jump to: navigation, search

reacting UV positive (UV +) (adjective) – fluorescent in UV-light (Warning: UV-light is harmful to the eye; Tip: reasonably priced lamps can be purchased from stamp supplies, but have to be tested with a lichen that contains fluorescing secondary metabolites like xanthones. The cheap, handheld lamps do not typically emit the same wavelengths of light and reaction intensity by the lichen thus varies. With some lamps a distinct reaction is easily observed, others induce only a very weak reaction).
