Schizidium

schizidium (noun, pl. schizidia) – a scaly propagule, formed by flaking off from the thallus surface; therefore usually covered with a cortex on the upper side, but with loose medullary hyphae below; often somewhat constricted at the base and similar to a squamule or lobule; e. g., on the surface of Fulgensia bracteata and inside the cups of Cladonia pyxidata. This is:part of upper thallus surface. Kind of:upper surface structure.
