Septal plate

septal plate (noun, ascospore term,spore morphology term, pl. septal plates) – the diaphragm-like structure that is first laid down during septum formation in ascospores, thus initiating septum formation; possibly an inter-membrane space delimited by two outer membranes of the newly formed spore cells; typically remaining visible even in mature ascospores as a thin, electron opaque central line in the centre of the septum.
